The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse would like to hear from anyone who has information regarding child sexual abuse in sporting clubs or associations.
Royal Commission CEO Philip Reed said the Royal Commission is tasked with investigating how institutions have responded to child sexual abuse.
“These institutions include sporting clubs and associations,” he said.
“While the Commission already has information concerning child sexual abuse within Australian sporting clubs, it would like to hear from others who were sexually abused while in the care of a sporting club.
“Whether you were abused yourself, you know of a child who was, or you have any information about the sexual abuse of a child in a sporting club, we would like to hear from you,” Mr Reed said.
Mr Reed confirmed that the identity of anyone providing information will be protected and will be kept confidential.
He also added that at this stage no public hearing into sporting clubs has been announced.
If a hearing is announced, survivors will not be compelled to give evidence if they do not wish to.
